Penny for your thoughts

Happiness comes in many forms -- in the company of good friends, in the feeling you get when you make someone else's dream come true, or in the promise of hope renewed. It's okay to let yourself be happy because you never know how fleeting that happiness might be.

Proud to be Pinoy

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Cheers to the heroes who fought for the freedom of our country.Today, over a 100 years ago, was the declaration of our independence. Indeed a historical event which led to the rise of our modern nation.

Are you proud to be Pinoy? Why?

TJ  : anu ba question yan
TJ : yes i am
TJ : why? yoko na magisip

What makes us all so proud to be Pinoy?  I know that I am, however come to think of it, i never really had a specific reason why. I don’t have a certain talent i can showcase for all of the world to see, not a sports buff either or a smart ass to represent our country and compete with others.  But as far as i can remember, i never wished i had natural blonde hair and blue eyes, i didnt want to leave the PI for another country unless its just a vacation (ok maybe i thought about it once! and i was convincing myself it will be fun, im still convincing myself) or if i get pregnant and i need to hide (from paparazzi and chismis and shit) and i die when the AC is freezing my ass off and therefore i cant survive when its cold and snowing so i never wished for that to happen here either. I like the way we are and i love our country just the way it is. Sure politics here sucks, the government is ran by educated fools (not all of them), poverty continues to be a problem and unemployment too. But we struggle to survive and eradicate all of these and seeing the results or improvements despite how minimal makes me feel good.

Penny : Are you proud to be Pinoy? Why?
Masta Mike : perpetual inclination to make most out of the less
Masta Mike : aka innovative, creative, general positive outlook

Filipinos are very talented indeed and creative. Im glad that we Filipinos are making a mark and being known in different industries all over the world. It shows how we were created for excellence. At times of misfortune even we tend to recover easily and rise because of our will and determination to survive.

But there is more to our country than just talents or human capital, the Philippines is a country rich in culture and resources.  Most of us tend to neglect or ignore this because all they see is how it is being corrupted. On the other hand those who appreciate these things will always call our country a home. Our close-family ties, (i’ve met my great5x grandma and been to our ancestral home and act like we’ve known each other since the day she was born) or they way we pinoys value our family and treat them as a support system,  the many tourist spots (developed or not, still beautiful) Im actually surprised at Pinoys who have travelled almost everywhere in the world but have failed to even go around our own country. On a same note, Im somehow saddened by the fact that we continue to leave our country behind with the hope of finding future somewhere else. Most of the newbies in the work industry have the skills and talents which they are willing to contribute to other countries and not ours. They seem to think they have no choice, though this may seem true at the moment, but coming back here IS THE CHOICE they would have to make one way or another. I personally wouldnt know any other place i will call home and therefore conclude that where ever life takes me, i will definitely comeback home.

As fun as it may sound being next door neighbors to Hollywood actors or even having Disneyland for a playground, to me that will never be of uttmost importance than returning to my own country.

*endnotes : that wasnt me talking that was my alter ego, had it been me it would pretty much sound like this

Penny  : wat makes u proud to be pinoy

Dax  : i thank you (bow)
Penny : VERY GOOD ANSWER
Penny : happy independence day btw
Dax : same to you and to every filipino in this land and afar coz i believe that the essence of the Filipino citizen is..is..uhm..world peace
